Joe Cole is set to return to Liverpool after a season long loan at French side, Lille, and he is keen to make a mark on the Reds supporters, and become a success at Anfield.
"I don't want to leave Liverpool one day having not been a success here,” Cole said, having scored just three goals in his only season with the club.
"I've been a success at West Ham, Chelsea, and Lille - I don't want people to be able to say that I haven't here,” he added.
Having been signed in the summer of 2010 by Roy Hodgson, and then sent out on loan by his successor, Kenny Daglish, Cole will be keen to make a good impression on Liverpool’s latest manager, Brendan Rogers.
"It excited me coming here because I knew what a big club it was, with a rich history, and I wanted to be part of something. I still do” Cole said.
Cole played 42 games in total for Lille, and scored nine goals. He will hope that, if he can recreate that form for Liverpool, then he may, once again, catch Roy Hodgson’s attention, and achieve a recall to the England team.
Cole has amassed 56 caps so far, and scored 10 goals; given England’s lack of creative options, Cole could well be back sooner than expected.
At 30 years old, there is still time for Cole to make an impression at Anfield. "The fire still burns in me to be a part of it. I want to be part of this club moving in the right direction" he said.
If Brendan Rogers can get the best out of Joe Cole, then his Liverpool side could be hard to beat this season but, if Cole has another poor year, then he is likely to be shown the exit sooner rather than later.
